Actor Paul D\u2019Amato, who was the inspiration for Marvel\u2019s Wolverine, has died. He was 76 years old.<\/p>\n
He was famous for his many roles in the US police drama Law & Order.<\/p>\n
Family members said he died on Monday after four years of fighting a rare brain disease.<\/p>\n
She told The Hollywood Reporter that D\u2019Amato was \u201cthe most wonderful, sweetest guy\u201d who fought \u201cso hard.\u201d<\/p>\n
In the 1978 epic war drama The Deer Hunter, he played a sergeant opposite Robert De Niro.<\/p>\n

But his role as \u201cDr. Hook\u201d in the ice hockey hit Slap Shot was what made him want to become Wolverine in the X-Men comics.<\/p>\n
It was cartoonist John Byrne who said this about D\u2019Amato: \u201cHe just had the look.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cThose crazy eyes of his.\u201d And Wolverine needs that.\u201d<\/p>\n
When word got out that D\u2019Amato had died, there were a lot of tributes.<\/p>\n
