<\/p>\nA strange sound from the bathroom on a cross-country flight gives flight attendant Leslie a terrible fright. Little does she realize that the kid inside will forever change her life.<\/p>\n
Leslie rubbed her temple with one hand as she headed to her plane. She had a throbbing headache to remind her of the night she had spent partying at one of the hottest clubs in Atlanta.<\/p>\n
\u201cAmy!\u201d Leslie called when she saw her fellow flight attendant. \u201cPlease tell me you have some headache pills?\u201d<\/p>\n
Amy looked at Leslie and rolled her eyes. \u201cOf course I do, but you should know better than to party the night before a cross-country flight.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cWe announced what we planned to do on the crowdfunding campaign too,\u201d Ben\u2019s dad added, \u201cso everything is above board.\u201d<\/p>\n
Leslie pressed the check to her chest as tears welled up in her eyes. \u201cThank you all so much,\u201d she sobbed. \u201cThis is the greatest gift I\u2019ve ever received. I only hope it\u2019s enough.\u201d<\/p>\n
Ben lunged forward and hugged Leslie\u2019s legs. \u201cIt will be enough, I\u2019m sure of it! And when Joe is better one day, I\u2019m going to come back here to play with him.\u201d<\/p>\n

Leslie smiled and ruffled the boy\u2019s hair. \u201cYou\u2019ll always be welcome to visit here, Ben.\u201d<\/p>\n
The check was almost the exact amount Leslie needed. After countless doctors and treatments, Joe returned to his old self a month later.<\/p>\n
As Leslie watched him playing with the neighbor\u2019s dog on the front lawn, it was hard to imagine a time when he hadn\u2019t been strong and full of laughter.<\/p>\n
\u201cAnd it\u2019s all thanks to Ben,\u201d she muttered.<\/p>\n
The familiar sound of a plane soaring overhead drew Leslie\u2019s eyes skywards. She would soon return to work. She\u2019d also just thought of the perfect way to repay Ben\u2019s family for their generosity.<\/p>\n
She pulled out her phone and started making calls. The next day, she called Ben\u2019s mom to tell her that the airline offered her family a generous discount on all flights for the rest of their lives.<\/p>\n

All children need attention. Ben was desperate to earn his mother\u2019s affection, so he acted foolishly. If she\u2019d realized her son felt neglected, she could\u2019ve acted sooner to ensure he always felt loved.
\nYou can only avoid emotional pain for so long. Instead of distracting herself from the pain of missing her family with partying and destructive habits, Leslie could\u2019ve found a healthier coping mechanism.<\/p>\n
