Elton John, 77, shares health update about severe infection causing partial blindness

“I was essentially a time bomb. I suppose I could have perished at any moment,” the current 77-year-old vocalist recounted.

Subsequently, he battled life-threatening complications following surgery for prostate cancer in 2017.

“I wasn’t fully aware of how close to the brink I was,” John, then 72, reflected on the harrowing incident. “I was unwell because I kept saying, ‘Please let me recover. I want to witness my children grow up.’ However, I had tubes protruding from every part of my body, and it required seven weeks for me to recuperate after returning home.”

Later, through his social media platforms, John announced that due to a hip injury, he had to postpone his 2021 European tour dates to 2023.

“Regrettably, I am compelled to reschedule the 2021 dates of my Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour in Europe and the U.K. to 2023,” the father of two disclosed.

“After the conclusion of my summer break, I awkwardly fell on a rigid surface and have since been experiencing significant pain and discomfort in my hip…I have received advice to undergo surgery promptly to facilitate a full recovery and avoid any potential long-lasting complications.”

Concluding his message on September 16, 2021, he expressed gratitude to his supporters and remarked, “It pains me to extend your wait, I completely comprehend your frustrations given the challenges of the past year.”

Constricted eyesight

On September 3, 2024, the renowned “Rocket Man” artist shared via social media that he is battling a “severe eye infection” affecting his vision.

“Throughout the summer, I have been contending with a severe eye infection that regrettably has left me with only limited vision in one eye. I am recovering, but it’s a slow process and will require some time for my vision to fully be restored in the affected eye,” wrote the EGOT achiever (Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony Awards).

He further expressed that he is presently “quietly recuperating at home” and is optimistic about his recovery progress.
